Let’s Talk About It: Eternally Secure and Assured

“Can I lose my salvation?”

“Does God still love me when I don’t feel it?”

These are two of the most common questions believers wrestle with — questions that can weigh heavily on the heart. The good news? Scripture doesn’t leave us guessing.

At Westside, our “Let’s Talk About It!” series is all about facing these hard questions head-on with honesty, humility, and hope. So, let’s talk about what it means to be eternally secure in Christ — and assured of His love no matter what.

Can I Lose My Salvation?

If salvation began with you, yes — you could lose it.

But here’s the truth: salvation doesn’t start with you. It starts with God.

Jesus said in John 10:28,

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Eternal life can’t be temporary. God’s grace can’t be revoked.

The same God who called you will never cancel you.

Our salvation rests not in our ability to hold on to Him, but in His power to hold on to us. Philippians 1:6 reminds us,

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

That means our salvation is sealed — not by our performance, but by His promise.

We’re not working to stay saved. We’re walking with the One who keeps us saved.

How Can I Know I’m Saved?

Many believers live in quiet uncertainty — wondering if they’ve “done enough,” or if they’ve somehow fallen out of God’s favor. But the Bible gives us confidence, not confusion.

1 John 5:13 declares:

“I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Not guess. Not hope. Know.

Assurance is the Spirit’s gift to every believer — that deep, unshakable peace that says, “I belong to God.” Romans 8:16 puts it plainly:

“The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

That inner witness from the Holy Spirit isn’t based on your mood or merit; it’s based on the finished work of Christ. You don’t need perfection to know you’re His — you just need faith.

What If I Don’t Feel Close to God?

We’ve all been there — seasons when God feels distant, prayers feel dry, and worship feels forced. But feelings are not facts.

Romans 8:38–39 assures us that nothing — not trouble, distance, doubt, or despair — can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

When you feel far from Him, remember:

  • Pray honestly. God prefers real distance over fake closeness.

  • Stay connected. Isolation feeds insecurity.

  • Feed on truth. God’s Word doesn’t change when your emotions do.

You might feel far, but you’re never forsaken. God’s love isn’t fragile. His grip doesn’t loosen when yours does.

Your Salvation Story is Secure

Eternal security doesn’t give us permission to live carelessly — it gives us freedom to live confidently.

Confidence that the One who started the work in you will finish it.

Confidence that even when you stumble, He still calls you His.

Confidence that grace never expires.

Jude 24 says,

“Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, without blemish and with great joy…”

That’s your security. That’s your assurance.

You are saved. You are kept. You are loved — forever.

Takeaway Truth

When your grip on God feels weak, remember — His grip on you hasn’t lost any strength.
